Can I Buy a Mattress with Capitec Pay? (Yes - Here's How)

Last updated: July 2026

Yes, you can buy a mattress with Capitec Pay at Mr Mattress. Choose pay by bank at checkout, select Capitec, approve the payment in your Capitec app, done. No card. Nothing to type. This article covers how it works, why it beats card payments, and what to do if you want to split the payment too.

How do I pay with Capitec Pay at Mr Mattress?

  1. Pick your mattress and go to checkout.
  2. At the payment step, choose pay by bank and select Capitec.
  3. Your Capitec app sends you the approval prompt.
  4. Approve it. Payment done, order confirmed, bed on the way.

That is the whole process. If you have ever approved a payment in your Capitec app, you already know how to do this.

Why not just use my card?

Because cards fail, and they fail at the worst moment. Nearly 1 in 4 online card payments in South Africa do not go through. Wrong digit in a 16-number string, daily online limit you forgot about, a 3D Secure SMS that arrives after the page times out. You did nothing wrong and the payment still dies.

Capitec Pay skips all of it. No numbers to type, no limits to trip over at the till, no OTP roulette. You approve in the app you already trust.

Can I split the payment as well?

Yes. If you would rather not pay the full amount now, choose the instalment option instead: 2 to 6 interest-free instalments, quick sign-up at checkout with your ID number. Our Revive memory foam at R4,899 works out to R816.50 over 6 instalments. Full details in our guide to buying a mattress on instalments in South Africa.

Is it safe to pay from my bank app?

Safer than a card, honestly. Your banking details never touch our site. The payment is processed by Stitch, the payment platform used by major South African brands, and nothing moves without your approval inside your own Capitec app.

When is this not the right option?

If the money is not in your account today, Capitec Pay cannot help, because it pays now from your available balance. In that case use the instalment option above, or if you need a longer runway, apply for credit over up to 12 months through FeverTree Finance on our Apply for Credit page. And if this month is simply too tight for any of it, wait. The right time to buy a bed is when it fits your budget, not ours.

Which mattress should I look at?

Mr Mattress is an affordable foam mattress option in South Africa that takes Capitec Pay and buy now pay later. Start with the foam mattress range: the Comfort range from R2,399 if the budget is tight, the Revive memory foam if your back needs the upgrade. Every bed has a 365-night trial and free delivery anywhere in South Africa, and you can walk into our stores across South Africa to try them first.
