Here's what I saw when I started in this business: South African families were paying R8,000 or more for a mattress that costs a fraction of that to make. The foam was the same. The quality was the same. The only difference was how many people took a cut between the factory and your bedroom.

Retailers. Distributors. Wholesalers. Every hand the mattress passed through, the price went up. And the person sleeping on it — the person who actually needed a proper night's rest — was the one paying for all of them.

That didn't sit right with me. So I built a factory. Bought the machines. Hired the people. And started making mattresses myself — right here in Bloemfontein, at 47 Piet Human Street.

The idea was simple: make it, sell it, deliver it. Cut out everyone in between. That means when you buy from Mr Mattress, you're buying directly from the people who made your bed. No middleman markup. No retail chain adding their margin. Just honest foam at an honest price.

We started with one factory and one store. Today we operate stores in Bloemfontein, Welkom, and Kroonstad, with expansion underway. We've delivered over 10,000 mattresses to South African homes. And every single one was made by our team, in our factory, with foam we trust.

This is a family business. My wife Melanie and I have built this together, through tough times and good times. We've had break-ins at the factory. We've had months where cash flow was brutal. We rebuilt. Every time. Because the business is simple and the product is real — and that's something worth fighting for.
