Which size actually suits you
Single (91 x 188 cm) works for a child or a student in a small room. Once someone hits their mid-teens and starts growing, a Three Quarter usually makes more sense.
Three Quarter (107 x 188 cm) gives a single sleeper an extra 16 cm of width over a Single without taking over a small room. A genuinely useful in-between size that a lot of retailers skip.
Double (137 x 188 cm) is the most common size in South African homes. It works for a couple, but only if neither person is a restless sleeper. If you or your partner moves around a lot at night, you'll feel it on a Double.
Queen (152 x 188 cm) is where most couples should land. It's only 15 cm wider than a Double on paper, but that difference is noticeable every night. Queen is the sweet spot between comfort and room space.
King (183 x 188 cm) is for a proper master bedroom. It's close to two Singles side by side. If you share the bed with kids or pets some nights, this is the size that absorbs it without anyone feeling cramped.

What to measure before you order
Don't guess. Measure before you buy:
Floor space: measure the length and width of the room. Aim for at least 60 cm of clearance on either side of the bed so it doesn't feel like a corridor.
Existing base or frame: if you already have a base, measure it before ordering a new mattress. A mismatch means overhang on one side or gaps on the other.
Doorways and access: foam mattresses roll and compress for delivery, which helps with tight stairwells and corners, but it's still worth checking the path in before delivery day.
