Floor space: measure the length and width of the room. Aim for at least 60 cm of clearance on either side of the bed so it doesn't feel like a corridor.
Existing base or frame: if you already have a base, measure it before ordering a new mattress. A mismatch means overhang on one side or gaps on the other.
