Do we make a latex mattress?

No. Mr Mattress manufactures foam mattresses and a Bonnell steel coil hybrid in South Africa, and none of them is latex. We say that first because the word latex is used loosely on labels, and a latex feel foam is not latex.

What to ask any supplier about a latex mattress

Ask what percentage is natural latex and what percentage is synthetic, whether the latex is the full core or only a thin top layer over ordinary foam, and what the written warranty term is. A thin latex layer over low density foam behaves like the foam underneath.

Best for a springier feel

If you like the bounce of latex, the closest thing we make is the Hybrid Foam, with a Bonnell steel coil core under foam comfort layers. It is EN 1957 endurance tested.

Best for pressure contouring

If you like latex because it cushions the shoulder and hip, the Revive Memory Foam contours with a memory foam top over a 65 kg/m3 core.

The three kinds of latex, in plain terms

Natural latex is made mainly from rubber tree sap and is the premium, most durable form. Synthetic latex is a petroleum based imitation and is usually cheaper and less durable. Blended latex mixes the two, and the label rarely says in what proportion.

When you should buy latex elsewhere

If you specifically want a natural rubber mattress, a latex specialist is the right supplier and we would rather tell you so than sell you something different. If what you want is a mattress that stays supportive for years, check the published foam density, the weight rating and the warranty term on whatever you buy, ours included.

Three questions to decide in two minutes

Do you want to feel cradled or bounced? Cradled points to the Revive, bounced points to the Hybrid. Do you share a bed with someone heavier or lighter? Check the weight rating on both. Do you want to test before you commit? Every Mr Mattress comes with a 365 night home trial and a 30 day money-back guarantee.

What to check before you buy any mattress

  • Published foam density. Active Foam is 50 kg/m3 and the Revive has a 65 kg/m3 core, printed on the product so you can compare like with like.
  • Weight rating. The Revive is rated to 140 kg per sleeper, so check the rating for the heaviest person in the bed.
  • Trial and warranty terms. Ours is a 365 night home trial, a 30 day money-back guarantee and a fixed written warranty that is never pro-rated.
  • The base. A worn or sagging base can undo a new mattress, so a base set is worth considering.
  • The pillow. A pillow that suits your sleeping position matters as much as the mattress for neck comfort.

Signs your current mattress is the problem

A visible dip where you sleep, waking stiff most mornings, noisy springs, or a mattress that is more than 8 to 10 years old are the usual signs. A mattress is a comfort product, not a medical treatment, so speak to a doctor about persistent pain.
