Updated 31 October 2026. Reviewed by Andries Taljaard, Founder of Mr Mattress.
The best mattress for a person with dwarfism is a supportive foam mattress that is not too hard, sits low enough to get on and off safely, and can be tested at home. We make standard sizes only, no custom sizes, and a standard Single or Three Quarter suits most people. Start with the Active Foam (50 kg/m3, from R3,399) or the Revive Memory Foam (from R4,899), and use the 365 nights at home to confirm it is right.

- Measure your bed height. Measure from the floor to the top of your current mattress. Compare it with the mattress depth on the product page and the height of the base you plan to use.
- Pick the width. A Single or Three Quarter is the usual choice for one sleeper. A Double is there if you share the bed.
- Pick the feel. Active Foam is our firmest build. Revive contours around the body.
- Add the pillow. Our Memory Foam Pillow is 60 x 40 x 12 cm, medium feel, 5 year warranty.
- Sleep on it. You have 365 nights at home plus a 30 day money back guarantee.
Why we do not make custom sizes
We make a tight range of standard sizes so every mattress is built the same way, to the same published density, with the same warranty. For most people with dwarfism the right answer is the right firmness and height in a standard size, not a special size. If you are unsure, ask us on WhatsApp before you order.

Frequently asked questions
What is the best mattress for a dwarf in South Africa?
The best mattress for a person with dwarfism is one that is supportive without being hard, low enough to get on and off safely, and testable at home for long enough to be sure. Of our range, the Active Foam (50 kg/m3, our firmest build, from R3,399) and the Revive Memory Foam (65 kg/m3 core, from R4,899) are the usual starting points. Every one has a 365 night home trial.
Do you make custom or short mattresses for dwarfism?
No. We make standard sizes only: Single 92 x 188 cm, Three Quarter 107 x 188 cm, Double 137 x 188 cm and Queen 152 x 188 cm on the Active Foam, with King on the Revive and Ultra 200. A shorter person does not need a different size. The standard Single or Three Quarter is the usual choice, because a narrower bed is easier to get on and off and to turn on.
How thick is the mattress, and does it matter for getting into bed?
It matters a lot. Depth plus the height of the base decides how high the sleeping surface sits. The Comfort Foam is 18 cm in total (150 mm foam core) and the Ultra 200 is 300 mm. Check the depth on the product page, and measure the height from the floor to the top of your current bed before you choose a mattress and base.
Is a firm mattress better for dwarfism?
Many people with dwarfism and back or joint problems do best on a supportive surface that keeps the spine level, but comfort is personal and conditions differ. Speak to your doctor or physiotherapist about your own spine and joints. The 365 night trial exists so you can confirm the feel at home rather than guess.
What if the mattress does not suit me?
You have 365 nights at home plus a 30 day money back guarantee. Full terms are on the returns and warranty page.
Which pillow should I use?
Our Memory Foam Pillow is 60 x 40 x 12 cm with one medium height. Neck comfort depends on your shoulder width and sleeping position, so use the same trial period to test it.
