Comfort Foam vs Hybrid Foam Mattress — Which One is Right For You?

We make two main types of foam mattress. They're both good. But they're not for the same person. Here's how to figure out which one fits your situation.

What is a Comfort Foam Mattress?

A Comfort Foam mattress is made from high-density polyurethane foam. It's firm, durable, and supportive. The foam pushes back against your body weight, which is good for people who need spinal support — especially back and stomach sleepers.

Comfort foam holds its shape over time. It doesn't sag quickly. And because it's a single material, it's more consistent across the whole surface. What you feel when you lie down in year one is still what you get in year five.

What is a Hybrid Foam Mattress?

A Hybrid Foam mattress combines layers of different foam types — typically a firm base layer with a softer comfort layer on top. The idea is to give you support from the base and pressure relief from the top layer.

This works well for side sleepers, who need more give at the shoulder and hip. It also suits people who find a fully firm mattress uncomfortable but don't want the extreme softness of a memory foam product.

Which One Suits Your Sleep Position?

Sleep Position Recommended Type Why
Back sleeper Comfort Foam Firm support keeps the spine aligned
Stomach sleeper Comfort Foam Prevents hips from sinking, avoids lower back strain
Side sleeper Hybrid Foam Softer top layer relieves shoulder and hip pressure
Combination sleeper Hybrid Foam Adapts better to multiple positions through the night

What About Body Weight?

If you're a heavier sleeper — above 100kg — a firmer Comfort Foam is usually the better choice. Softer layers compress more under heavier weight, which can reduce their support effect over time. A high-density comfort foam holds up better under sustained pressure.

Lighter sleepers don't put as much stress on the foam, so they can comfortably use a hybrid without worrying about premature compression.

What About Temperature?

Foam mattresses sleep warmer than spring mattresses — that's a known trade-off. Hybrid foam tends to sleep slightly cooler than pure memory foam because of the different material layers. If you run hot at night, a hybrid is the better call.

Comfort foam is denser, which means it retains slightly more heat. Use a breathable fitted sheet and your room temperature matters more than your mattress choice here.
