A B&B bed lives a harder life than a home bed
Your own mattress carries the same one or two bodies every night, in roughly the same positions. A B&B bed carries a different guest every few nights - light sleepers, heavy sleepers, couples, restless kids - and every single one of them judges it on the first night, with no adjustment period and no loyalty. Three things follow from that:
- Durability is non-negotiable. Varied loads accelerate wear on low-density foam. The comfort layer that softens under one sleeper collapses under fifty different ones.
- You need broad-appeal firmness. You can't ask guests their preference in advance. Medium-firm to firm support suits the widest range of bodies and sleeping positions.

The specs that predict guest-room lifespan
- A published foam density. Kilograms per cubic metre is the number that decides whether a bed survives years of varied guests or develops a crater by season two. No number, no guest room.
- Endurance-test evidence. A mattress that has been through EN 1957 endurance testing - the European standard that mechanically simulates years of use - has proven its durability before your first guest checks in.
- A written warranty with a stated sag threshold. Vague warranties protect the seller, not the host.

The warranty question every B&B owner should ask first
