You earn a percentage of everything your code sells in a calendar month, on a sliding scale that rewards you for selling more. To avoid any confusion later, here is exactly how that's calculated, plainly, because this is the single most common dispute in affiliate and creator deals:

• It's based on the order value excluding VAT.
• It's based on the order value excluding delivery.
• It's calculated after your discount code has already been taken off, not before.

The sliding scale

The rand thresholds that decide which tier you land in are set out in your creator agreement, not on this page, since they can be reviewed as the business grows.

Important: this is not a stepped calculation. Whichever tier your month's total lands in, that rate applies to your WHOLE monthly total, not just the portion above each threshold. If your code sells enough in a month to reach Tier 3, you earn 10% on the full month's total, not a blend of 5%, 7.5% and 10% across different slices of it. It's simpler, and it pays more.

How the calculation actually works, step by step

The exact discount amount on your code is agreed with you personally when you're accepted, it isn't published on this page. What matters here is the shape of the calculation, which is the same for every creator regardless of the amount:

If a customer uses your code for more than one item in the same order, the same rule applies to the whole order value, excl VAT, excl delivery, after the discount.

Mr Mattress backs every mattress with a 365 night trial and a 30 day money back guarantee. Because a customer can still return an order in that window, we pay commission on an order only after its 30 day money back window has closed. This isn't us holding your money, it's what stops a payout from ever needing to be clawed back from you later if the customer returns the mattress. It protects you as much as it protects us.

Payout runs on the 7th of every month, by EFT, for orders whose 30 day money back window closed before that date.

One rule on discount codes: no stacking

Your code cannot be combined with a sale or promotional campaign. If Mr Mattress is running a site-wide sale, for example a 30 percent off promotion, your code will not stack on top of it and may show as invalid at checkout during that period. This isn't a fault, it's how the system is built. Worth mentioning to your audience so nobody's surprised at checkout.

A lot of Mr Mattress customers, especially caravan, bakkie and custom-size buyers, phone or WhatsApp us before they buy rather than checking out online. That means your code might never actually get typed in, even though you're the reason the sale happened. So the rule is simple: if a customer names you when they phone or WhatsApp us, that sale counts as yours too, and gets added to your monthly statement the same as an online order made with your code.

Free product when you hit target. Your target is agreed with you personally in your creator agreement once you're accepted, it isn't published on this page because it varies creator to creator. Reach it, and we send you a Mr Mattress product to keep, no charge.

Buying at cost, any time. Separately, accepted creators can also buy Mr Mattress product for themselves at cost price, so you can get your own mattress to actually sleep on and film in your own home without waiting to hit a target first.

You know your own audience better than we do, so we're not going to hand you a script. But a few facts need to stay accurate, because they're the ones we can actually stand behind if anyone checks:

We pull the stats monthly and send you a statement of what your code sold. This is run personally by our CFO, Jolanda, from headoffice@mrmattress.co.za, so you always know exactly who's handling your money.

Do I need a certain number of followers to apply?

No. There's no minimum follower count and no required platform. This programme is open to every South African creator, we judge on content and fit, not audience size.

Do I get paid, or do I get sent a product?

Both. You get paid a percentage of the sales made through your own discount code, on the sliding scale above, tracked in Shopify and paid monthly by EFT on the 7th, once each order's 30 day money back window has closed. On top of that, hit the target set in your creator agreement and we send you a product to keep. You can also buy Mr Mattress product for yourself at cost price at any time once you're in the programme.

Can I still post the content on my own page?

Yes, indefinitely. Granting Mr Mattress a 12 month licence to use your content in our own marketing does not take it off your own page. You keep the right to post it everywhere you already do, for as long as you like.

How long does the process take from applying to receiving a code?

We aim to respond to every application within 5 working days.

What happens if my code is used during a sale campaign?

It won't stack. Your code cannot be combined with a Mr Mattress sale or promotional campaign, so it may decline at checkout during one. Let your audience know if you're posting around a sale period.

What if someone buys because of me but phones instead of using my code?

It still counts. If they name you when they phone or WhatsApp us, that sale is added to your statement the same as an online order with your code.
