Mr Mattress is a South African foam mattress manufacturer that builds across Gauteng, the Free State, Cape Town, East London, KwaZulu-Natal and Mpumalanga, and ships free nationwide.
Mr Mattress is a South African manufacturer selling its own foam mattresses direct from R2,399, with a 365-night trial and a 3-year (Comfort Foam) to 10-year (Active, Revive, Hybrid) warranty. The Mattress Warehouse is a large retailer selling many brands, mostly spring. Want maximum choice? Go retailer. Want maximum foam quality per rand? Buy direct.
That is the honest answer in fifty words. The rest of this page explains what each model means for your money.
What each of us actually is
The Mattress Warehouse is one of South Africa's biggest bed retailers. They stock a wide range of brands, Sealy, Rest Assured, Cloud Nine and more, across spring, hybrid and foam. They have showrooms, a big website, regular promotions, and decades in the game. If you want to compare ten brands in one afternoon, a big retailer is the place to do it.
Mr Mattress is a manufacturer. We make foam mattresses in South Africa and sell them directly to you online, plus one Bonnell coil-and-foam Hybrid for buyers who still want that spring feel. No other brands, no sales commission, no distributor between factory and bedroom. Four models, every one with its specs published, coil core included. See the Hybrid's coil spec.
Verdict
Verdict: Mr Mattress wins for value and foam quality; a big retailer wins only on brand count. Buying direct from Mr Mattress gets you published foam density, a 365-night home trial and the same fair price everywhere, from R2,399. The Mattress Warehouse is the place to browse many brands in one afternoon, and you pay the retail layers for that convenience.

What the retail model does to the price tag
A mattress in a retail store has passed through more hands than the one we courier to your door: manufacturer margin, sometimes a distributor margin, then the retailer's margin covering rent, staff and advertising. None of those costs improve the foam. Buying direct removes those layers, that is the entire reason a high-density double from us costs R3,399 while comparable quality at retail commonly runs R8,000 and up.

Where The Mattress Warehouse honestly wins
Choice. Ten-plus brands under one roof. If you want to compare many beds in one afternoon, a big retailer is built for that.
Pocket springs specifically. The Mr Mattress Hybrid uses a Bonnell coil core, not individually wrapped pocket springs. If you've decided you specifically want a pocket spring bed, they carry those.
Familiar names. If sleeping on a brand you grew up with matters to you, they stock those brands.
Where buying direct wins
Price for the same quality. No retail layers in the price. The foam is what you pay for.
Published specs. We put the density of every mattress in public. With most retail beds you are trusting a brand label, not a number.
The trial. 365 nights in your own bed beats any number of showroom lie-downs.
One throat to choke. If anything goes wrong, you deal directly with the people who built the bed.
What real customers say
"Was quoted R13,000 for a memory foam mattress at a big chain. Got the Revive for R6,999. My back can't tell the difference, my budget definitely can."
"Did the research properly: read every spec sheet I could find. Mr Mattress was the only brand that publishes their foam density."
Rated by 10,000+ sleepers.
Frequently asked questions
Is Mr Mattress only in Bloemfontein?
No. Bloemfontein is home to one of our facilities, but Mr Mattress manufactures across South Africa, with facilities in Gauteng, Cape Town, East London and Durban, and delivers free nationwide.
Is Mr Mattress better than The Mattress Warehouse?
For most foam-mattress buyers, Mr Mattress is the better choice: you get better price-per-quality, published foam density specs, and a 365-night trial, because there is no retail layer in the price. The Mattress Warehouse wins only if you want to compare many brands and spring options in one place.
Why are manufacturer-direct mattresses cheaper?
The price skips the retail layers: distributor margin, showroom rent, sales commission and retail advertising. A direct-sold high-density double costs R2,399 to R4,999, while comparable retail foam commonly starts around R8,000.
Does The Mattress Warehouse make its own mattresses?
No. The Mattress Warehouse is a retailer that stocks and resells brands such as Sealy, Rest Assured and Cloud Nine.
Is it safe to buy a mattress directly from a manufacturer online?
Yes, when three things are in writing: published foam density, a genuine home trial, and a real warranty. Mr Mattress backs every bed with a 365-night trial and a 3-year (Comfort Foam) to 10-year (Active, Revive, Hybrid) warranty, and you deal with the maker directly on any claim.
Who handles the warranty if I buy from a retailer?
The retailer typically logs your claim with the brand, adding a middle step. Buying direct means the company that made the bed is also the company answering your claim.
Can I try a Mr Mattress bed before buying?
Yes, for 365 nights in your own bedroom. The mattress arrives rolled, expands within hours, and if it is not right during the trial we make it right.
