Custom Size Foam Mattress Made to Order: Bakkie, Caravan and Custom Cut Foam (2026)
Quick answer: Mr Mattress builds custom mattresses to order in our own South African factories - for your home bedroom (non-standard sizes, low or high bed bases, daybeds and alcoves) as well as bakkies, caravans, campervans, trucks, sleeper couches and boats. You choose the dimensions, foam grade and cover; we send a free quote and cut it to the centimetre in our own factory. No pricing lists here because every job is different; every quote is free and comes back fast.
Custom mattress for your home, not just your caravan
Most "custom mattress" searches assume it means a fitted vehicle mattress. Mr Mattress also builds custom mattresses for standard bedrooms with non-standard problems: a room where a King footprint won't fit but you want more than a Queen, a daybed or window seat that needs a specific thin profile, a high-riser or low platform base where standard mattress heights don't sit right, or an odd-shaped alcove bed. You choose the length, width, height, foam grade (from the same 50 to 60 kg/m³ SABS-approved range used across our standard mattresses) and cover, and we cut it to order in our own factory.
| What's customisable | Detail |
|---|---|
| Dimensions | Any length, width or height in centimetres - longer, shorter, narrower, wider, thinner or lower than standard |
| Shape | Cut corners, tapered sides, curves and odd alcove shapes, not just rectangles |
| Foam grade | Chosen from our 50 to 60 kg/m³ SABS-approved range, the same grades used across our standard mattress lineup |
| Cover | Confirmed with you as part of your quote |
| Caravan and island-bed shapes | Flat rate of R6,999 regardless of shape complexity, see the Custom Caravan Mattress |
| Home bedroom custom sizes | Quoted individually on your measurements and foam grade, usually within one business day |
What we cut
Bakkie mattress
Measured to your load bin or canopy, in a firm high-density foam that handles being slept on over a hard bed. The classic South African road trip upgrade: tell us the make and model or send bin measurements. See the dedicated bakkie mattress page for models, cab types and thickness options.
Caravan and campervan mattress
Cut corners, tapered sides, curved fronts and split two-piece builds for island beds and dinette conversions. If your caravan mattress is an odd shape, that is exactly the work our cutters do daily.
Truck sleeper mattress
Sized for truck cab bunks, in dense foam that survives every night use on the road.
Sleeper couch and futon replacement
Replace a tired sleeper couch or futon pad with fresh foam cut to the frame, including thinner fold-friendly builds.
Boats, trailers and everything else
Boat bunks, roof-top tents, trailer conversions, window seats, camp beds and non-standard antique bed frames. If it has measurements, we can cut foam to it.
Custom mattress topper
Need a topper for a caravan, bakkie canopy or an odd sleeper couch size? We cut memory foam toppers to order too, in the same 7cm 30 density foam as our standard sizes.
Non-standard bed sizes and heights
Longer, shorter, narrower, wider, thinner or lower than standard. This includes lower-height builds where a standard mattress sits too tall on a high base.

Frequently asked questions
Can I get a custom mattress for my home bedroom, not just a caravan or bakkie?
Yes. Alongside vehicle and specialty work, Mr Mattress cuts custom mattresses for home bedrooms too - non-standard room sizes, daybeds, window seats, and high or low bed bases where standard mattress heights don't fit. You choose the dimensions, foam grade and cover, and every job is quoted individually.
Can you make a custom size foam mattress in South Africa?
Yes. Mr Mattress cuts high-density foam mattresses to your exact measurements in our own factories: bakkie and truck mattresses, caravan and campervan mattresses with cut corners or tapered edges, sleeper couch and futon replacements, boat bunks, home bedroom custom sizes and non-standard bed sizes. Every custom job is priced on a free quote.
How do I measure for a bakkie or caravan mattress?
Measure the length, width and the maximum height that fits your space, in centimetres. For caravan mattresses with a cut corner or curve, measure the straight sides and the depth of the cut, or send us a photo with measurements written on it over WhatsApp and we will confirm the shape with you before cutting.
What does a custom cut mattress cost?
Every custom job is quoted individually, because the price depends on the dimensions, foam grade and cover you choose - except caravan and island-bed shapes, which are a flat R6,999 regardless of shape complexity. Send your measurements on WhatsApp or the quote form and we respond with a firm quote, usually within one business day.
Does a custom mattress come with the 365-night trial?
No. Custom-cut mattresses carry the same 10-year warranty as our standard range, but because they are made specifically to your measurements, they are not covered by the 365-night home trial or the standard money-back guarantee. Measure carefully and confirm the details with us before you order.
How long does a made-to-order mattress take?
Custom-cut mattresses are manufactured to order in our own factories. Typical turnaround is confirmed on your quote, and delivery is available nationwide.
Can you make my mattress thinner or lower than standard?
Yes. Thinner and lower builds are one of our most common custom requests, for caravans, bunks, sleeper couches and beds where a standard-height mattress sits too tall. Tell us the maximum height you want and we cut to it.
