Edblo vs Mr Mattress: Honest Comparison (2026)

Last checked: 26 July 2026

Short answer: Edblo has been manufacturing beds in South Africa since 1927 - the country's first local bed manufacturer - and is now part of Bravo Brands' Sleep Division alongside Sealy and King Koil. Mr Mattress is a smaller, newer manufacturer selling direct, from R2,399, with a 365-night home trial. Edblo's own warranty page mentions no comfort trial at all - only a guarantee and service warranty period.

Verdict

Verdict: Mr Mattress wins on price and trial certainty; Edblo wins on heritage. Nearly a century of South African manufacturing is real weight - Edblo was literally the country's first local bed maker. But no comfort trial is published anywhere on their site, and their queen pricing sampled here runs well above ours for comparable quality.

What each of us actually is

Edblo was founded in 1927 by Edelstein and Bloch (Ed + Blo), becoming South Africa's first local bed manufacturer, with factories historically in Cape Town, Durban and Johannesburg. It's now part of Bravo Brands' Sleep Division, the same group that owns Sealy, Slumberland and King Koil in South Africa, and is sold through retailers like The Mattress Warehouse and The Bed Centre.

Mr Mattress is a smaller, newer manufacturer. We make our own foam and memory foam mattresses in South Africa, plus one Bonnell coil-and-foam Hybrid, and sell direct online and through our own stores at one fixed price.

The warranty, and what it doesn't cover

Edblo's warranty structure has two parts: a guaranteed repair or replacement period for genuine defects in workmanship or materials, followed by a service warranty period, commonly cited as 1 year guarantee plus 10 years service warranty. Like most manufacturer warranties in this industry, it says nothing about comfort - no trial or satisfaction guarantee is mentioned on their warranty page at all.

Mr Mattress's 365-night trial exists specifically to cover that gap: judge comfort at home, with no minimum hold period, separate from and in addition to the warranty against defects.
