A mattress manufacturer, not just a mattress shop

A lot of mattress brands sold in South Africa are really just retailers. They import mattresses, or they buy from a factory somewhere else and put their own name on the cover. Mr Mattress builds mattresses. We manufacture through our own and approved partner facilities in Gauteng, the Free State (head office and main factory in Bloemfontein), Cape Town and East London, so most of the country is within reach of a manufacturing facility rather than one distant factory.

Why locally made matters

Buying from a local manufacturer changes a few practical things, and it is worth being straightforward about what actually changes rather than making big promises we cannot prove.

• Shorter supply chains. A mattress made in South Africa does not sit in a shipping container for months before it reaches you. Stock moves faster, and problems get fixed faster.
• Accountability. If something is wrong with your mattress, you are dealing with the people who built it and who stand behind the warranty, not a shipping agent or an overseas head office.
• Faster warranty and trial service. Our 365 night home trial and tiered warranty (3 years on Comfort Foam, 10 years on Active, Revive and Hybrid) are handled locally, by the manufacturer, which tends to mean quicker answers than routing a claim through an import chain.
• Local jobs. Manufacturing in Gauteng, the Free State, Cape Town and East London supports South African jobs in production, logistics and after-sales support.

We are not going to invent a specific percentage saved by buying manufacturer-direct. Retail mark-ups vary too much from store to store and brand to brand to state honestly as one number. Does manufacturer-direct mean a cheaper mattress?

Buying manufacturer-direct removes a layer of retail mark-up that a middleman would otherwise add, though we will not put a specific percentage on that since retail pricing varies too widely to state honestly as one number. What we can promise is one price, the same online and in our stores.

Is Mr Mattress only in Bloemfontein?
