Sloom vs Mr Mattress: An Honest Foam Mattress Comparison (2026)

Two tabs open, one bed to buy

You are comparing mattresses late at night, on your phone, because your back is sore and your current bed is finished.

You have probably landed on Sloom. Good brand. We are not going to pretend otherwise. But before you spend the money, here is the honest version of how Sloom and Mr Mattress line up. Both, side by side. Where Sloom is better, we say so. Then you make your own call.

That is the whole point. You should buy the right bed, not the one with the loudest ad.

The short version

Sloom is the modular one. You unzip the cover and rearrange the foam layers yourself to change the firmness. Soft, medium, firm. You decide, at home, by moving the foam around.

Mr Mattress is the simple one. No layers to rearrange. No decision to get wrong. We build the support in, you sleep on it, your back settles. That is it.

Both are foam. Both are made in South Africa. Both ship to your door free. The difference is who does the work to get it right. With Sloom, that is you. With us, that is us.

The honest table

Sloom figures verified live, June 2026. Mr Mattress figures from the live store. Queen pricing compares our Revive memory foam against the Sloom Original.

Look at the trial line. 365 nights against 100. And read Sloom’s small print: you have to keep it at least 60 nights before you can send it back, and if you want out earlier they keep 10 percent. Ours is longer and cleaner.

Where Sloom genuinely wins

We said we would be honest, so here it is.

If you and your partner cannot agree on firmness, Sloom’s split comfort lets each side be set differently. That is a real feature, and for some couples it is the one that decides it. If you actually enjoy adjusting your bed every few months, the modular design is built for that.

And on weight, Sloom rates to 150kg per person against our 140kg. If you are heavier than 140kg, that gap is real and we are not going to hide it.

If that is you, Sloom is a fair choice. We mean it.

Where Mr Mattress wins

For most people, the modular thing is a job they never asked for. You do not want to learn your mattress. You want to sleep.

We give you a bed that is right the moment it arrives. Better sleep, less back pain, no homework. You get longer to decide it is yours, with a bigger warranty behind it, and none of the return-fee fine print.

And there is the money. A Sloom queen is R12,000, and they have just put prices up. Ours, in the same size and the same memory foam, is R7,199. Simple, honest value is the whole reason we exist.

Simple is not the cheap option. Simple is the confident one. We do not need you to adjust anything, because we got it right the first time.

So which one

If you want a project, buy the modular bed.

If you want to wake up without the lower-back ache and never think about your mattress again, that is us. 365 nights to be sure. 10-year warranty. Free delivery. If it is not right, we collect it and you get your money back.

Frequently asked questions

Is Mr Mattress cheaper than Sloom?

Yes, by a wide margin. A Sloom Original in queen is R12,000, and they are raising prices from 1 July 2026. The Mr Mattress Revive memory foam in queen is R7,199. Same size, both memory foam, both made in South Africa, roughly R4,800 less.

Can I try a Mr Mattress before I commit?

Yes. You get 365 nights to sleep on it. If it is not right, we collect it and refund you in full. That is far longer than Sloom’s 100 nights, and Sloom asks you to keep theirs at least 60 nights before you can return it.

Does Sloom charge a fee if I return it?

Sloom charges a 10 percent service fee if you return before 60 days, and a 10 percent fee on size exchanges. Mr Mattress charges no return fee. If the bed is not right within your trial, we collect it and refund you, with no admin.

Is foam better than spring for back pain?

Foam supports your spine evenly instead of pushing back at pressure points the way old springs do. For most people with lower-back pain, that is the difference between waking up sore and waking up fine.

Do I have to adjust a Mr Mattress like a Sloom?

No. There are no layers to rearrange. We build the support in. You sleep on it as it arrives.

Is there a weight limit?

Sloom lists a 150kg per person limit. The Mr Mattress Revive supports up to 140kg. If you are heavier than 140kg, Sloom carries a slightly higher rating, and we would rather tell you that than lose your trust.

Is Mr Mattress made in South Africa?

Yes. Locally made foam mattresses, delivered free across the country.
