Quick answer: the best mattress for side sleepers in KZN is the Mr Mattress Revive Memory Foam, a memory-foam comfort layer over a 50 kg/m³ support core.
Search "best mattress for side sleepers KZN" and most results give you the same generic advice - "medium-soft to medium, a hybrid for the warmer, humid climate" - without ever naming a published density figure or an actual product you can order with delivery to Durban.
The best mattress for side sleepers in KwaZulu-Natal is the Mr Mattress Revive Memory Foam - a memory-foam comfort layer over a 50 kg/m³ support core, published on the product page, not a marketing description. Your shoulder and hip sink in just enough to relieve pressure while your spine stays level. If KZN's warmer, more humid climate makes you want extra airflow, the Hybrid's steel coil core underneath the same style of comfort layer breathes better than solid foam.
What to actually look for:
- Pressure relief - your shoulder and hip need to sink in slightly, not get pushed back against.
- Spinal alignment - avoid both extremes; very firm and very soft both throw your spine out of line.
- Published density - a kg/m³ figure tells you how it will actually feel and last, "medium" on its own doesn't.
- Return/trial policy - check the actual hold period before you can return it, not just that a trial exists.
| Mattress | Feel | Best for | Published density | From |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Revive Memory Foam ⭐ | Medium, contouring | Deepest pressure relief for shoulder and hip | 65 kg/m³ core + top | R4,899 |
| Hybrid Foam | Medium, springy | More airflow, good for KZN's warmer climate | Bonnell steel coil core + foam layers | R6,299 |
| Active Foam | Firm | Combination sleepers wanting more support | 50 kg/m³ core + top | R3,399 |
Matched to your weight, not a generic "medium"
Most advice stops at "medium to medium-soft." Here's the actual breakdown:
- Lighter side sleepers: the Revive's memory-foam top gives the most give for a lighter frame to settle into.
- Average-weight side sleepers: the Revive is the safest default - contouring on top, 65 kg/m³ support underneath.
- Heavier side sleepers: the Hybrid's steel coil core adds a firmer, more supportive base under the same contouring layer. See our full guide for heavier sleepers in KZN.
We don't sell a latex mattress, so we'll say so plainly - if latex's specific bounce-back feel is a hard requirement, that's a genuine gap in our range. For the contouring and pressure relief side sleepers actually need, memory foam and a coil-supported hybrid cover the same real need.

Frequently asked questions
What is the best mattress for side sleepers in KZN?
A medium, contouring memory foam mattress with a published density figure. The Mr Mattress Revive (65 kg/m³ core + top) is built for exactly this, and delivers free to Durban and the rest of KZN.
Is a hybrid or memory foam mattress better for side sleepers in a warmer climate?
Both work well. Memory foam gives the deepest contouring and pressure relief. A hybrid adds a steel coil core under the same kind of comfort layer, for more airflow - useful in KZN's warmer, more humid climate.
Do you deliver to Durban and the rest of KZN?
Yes - free nationwide delivery includes Durban and the rest of KwaZulu-Natal, with a 365-night home trial and no hold period before you can return it.
Do you sell a latex mattress?
No, we don't currently offer a latex model. Our memory foam and hybrid options are built to deliver the same contouring pressure relief side sleepers look for in latex.
I'm a heavier side sleeper - which mattress?
The Hybrid's steel coil core adds extra support under the same contouring comfort layer. See our guide for heavier sleepers in KZN.

What to check before you buy any mattress
- Published foam density. Active Foam is 50 kg/m3 and the Revive has a 65 kg/m3 core, printed on the product so you can compare like with like.
- Weight rating. The Revive is rated to 140 kg per sleeper, so check the rating for the heaviest person in the bed.
- Trial and warranty terms. Ours is a 365 night home trial, a 30 day money-back guarantee and a fixed written warranty that is never pro-rated.
- The base. A worn or sagging base can undo a new mattress, so a base set is worth considering.
- The pillow. A pillow that suits your sleeping position matters as much as the mattress for neck comfort.
Signs your current mattress is the problem
A visible dip where you sleep, waking stiff most mornings, noisy springs, or a mattress that is more than 8 to 10 years old are the usual signs. A mattress is a comfort product, not a medical treatment, so speak to a doctor about persistent pain.
