Two very different toppers

Easy Sleep sells one topper design in twelve sizes: 4cm of gel-infused foam under a flat bamboo cover, priced by size on a ladder from R1,599 to R3,699. They have sold enough of them to rack up 1,535 reviews at a 4.5 average, which makes them the reference point in this category and the reason "easy sleep mattress topper" is the single biggest branded search term for toppers in South Africa.

Mr Mattress makes ours 7cm thick at a published 30 density soft memory foam, with a quilted top rather than a flat cover, and finished with a fitted border that wraps around the mattress like a fitted sheet, not elastic straps. It ships flat and folded rather than rolled, so there is no 48 hour wait for it to expand and no permanent roll crease down the middle. South African beds are 188cm long, and extra length beds are 200cm. Ours are cut to those exact lengths. Easy Sleep's "standard" length is 190cm, which does not match either.

The honest table

Prices and specs checked live against easysleep.co.za's own product data and Shopify's live product data for mrmattress.co.za on 12 September 2026. We are cheaper on Three Quarter, Double and Queen at both lengths, level on King standard length, and they are cheaper on King extra length and Super King, by R300 in each case.

Where Easy Sleep genuinely wins, buy theirs instead if this is you

• Super King. Their King Super (200x200) is R3,699 against our R3,999, R300 cheaper. This is the one size where they beat us on price.
• King extra length. At 183x200, theirs is R3,199 against our R3,499, also R300 cheaper.
• Single XS. They offer a 76cm wide Single XS at R1,599, narrower than any size we make. If you need something that small, that is theirs alone.
• Track record. 1,535 reviews at a 4.5 average is a real, proven track record. Our topper only launched this month and has none yet.
• The number on the warranty label. 10 years against our 3, printed plainly, if a bigger number on the box matters to you.
• Cover fabric. Bamboo is a genuinely nice fabric feel, if that matters more to you than a quilted finish.

Where Mr Mattress wins

• Thickness. 7cm against their 4cm, 75% thicker. Once foam depth drops close to the 2 to 3cm range, most people say they can still feel the mattress underneath.
• Real South African lengths. South African beds are 188cm long, and extra length beds are 200cm. Ours are cut to 188cm and 200cm. Theirs are 190cm, a length that matches no South African bed.
• Quilted top. Ours has a quilted finish. Theirs is a flat, unquilted cover.
• Fitted border. Ours wraps around the mattress like a fitted sheet, so it holds its shape and stays put. Theirs relies on an elastic skirt.
• Published density. We print 30 density because that is the number that tells you whether a topper still does its job in a year. Easy Sleep does not publish a density figure for its foam.
• 365 night trial. Not one topper brand we have checked, Easy Sleep included, publishes any trial period on a topper. Ours comes with a full year to change your mind, for any reason.
• No roll crease. Ours ships flat and folded. A topper that arrives rolled or vacuum packed needs up to 48 hours to expand and can hold a crease down the middle for weeks.
• Price on Three Quarter, Double and Queen. We are cheaper at both standard and extra length on every one of these sizes, and level with them on King standard length.

On the warranty number: a warranty only covers manufacturing defects, faulty stitching, a foam block that was wrong from the factory. It does not cover the thing buyers actually complain about with cheap toppers, which is the foam flattening within a few months of normal use. Our 365 night trial covers everything a warranty does not, including "it went flat" or "it just did not suit me," with a full year to find out. Their 10 years protects them against a defect claim. So which one should you buy?

Buy the Easy Sleep topper if you specifically need a Super King or King extra length at the lowest possible price, need their 76cm Single XS, or their review track record and bamboo cover matter most to you. Buy the Mr Mattress topper for every other size, where we are cheaper or level, plus more foam, a quilted top, a fitted border that actually stays in place, a published density, real South African lengths, and a full year to prove the topper works before you are committed to it.

What about the cheap egg-crate option on Takealot

Worth a straight mention, since it will come up in the same search: Takealot lists a ThinkCosy convoluted egg crate topper at R629, rated 4.8 from 174 reviews, made in South Africa. For light, occasional use, for example freshening up a spare bed for a few nights a year, that is a genuinely decent product at a quarter of our price. It is not a memory foam topper and will not hold up the way ours or Easy Sleep's will under nightly use, but we are not going to pretend it has no place in this category.
