Sleepmasters vs Mr Mattress: Honest Mattress Topper Comparison (2026)

Mr Mattress 7cm memory foam mattress topper with a quilted top

Sleepmasters vs Mr Mattress: Honest Mattress Topper Comparison (2026)

Quick answer: Sleepmasters is cheaper, and that is the whole of their case. Their topper is high resilient foam, not memory foam, with no density published, a plain cotton knit cover, four elastic corner straps, and exactly two sizes, Single and Queen, in Standard Length only. Ours is 7cm of memory foam at a published 30 density, with a quilted top, a fitted border that wraps the mattress like a fitted sheet, six sizes in both 188cm and 200cm lengths, a 3 year warranty and a 365 night trial. If your bed is a Double, a Three Quarter, a King, a Super King, or any extra length bed, Sleepmasters does not make a topper for it at all.

They do not make a memory foam topper

This is the part most people miss. Sleepmasters does sell a mattress topper, and it is a real product from a well known retail name. But it is described on their own page as high resilient foam, and their own specification block lists the filling type as not applicable. There is no density figure anywhere on the listing. High resilient foam is a perfectly good material, it is simply not memory foam, and it does not contour under a hip or a shoulder the way memory foam does. If you searched for a memory foam topper and landed on theirs, that is worth knowing before you buy.

Where Sleepmasters genuinely wins, buy theirs instead if this is you

  • Price. If you want the cheapest topper with a familiar name on the label and your bed is a Single or a Queen standard length, theirs costs less. That is a real reason and we are not going to pretend otherwise.
  • Stores you can walk into. Sleepmasters has branches in most malls. If you want to press a hand on it before buying, they can do that and we cannot.
  • Account and lay-by options. They run in-store credit and account facilities that we do not offer.

Where Mr Mattress wins

  • It is actually memory foam. Theirs is high resilient foam with no density stated. Ours is memory foam at a published 30 density, which is the number that tells you whether it still works in a year.
  • Your bed size probably exists. They make two sizes. We make six, in both 188cm standard and 200cm extra length, plus Super King and custom cuts for caravans, bakkies and sleeper couches.
  • A quilted top, not a plain cover. Ours is stitched through to the foam so the cover holds its position instead of sliding and bunching.
  • A fitted border instead of four straps. Elastic corner straps stretch, slip and snap. Our border wraps the sides of the mattress like a fitted sheet.
  • A warranty that exists. Three years on ours. Sleepmasters publishes none on the topper.
  • A trial you can actually use. 365 nights, any reason, no admin fee, no bed set purchase required, no 30 night wait.
  • Ships flat and folded. No 48 hour expansion wait, no roll crease down the middle.
The full Mr Mattress topper size range, custom sizes cut to order
On price: theirs is cheaper and ours is a different product. You are choosing between high resilient foam with no published spec in one of two sizes, and 7cm of memory foam at a stated density, quilted and bordered, in the size your bed actually is, with a year to send it back. If the cheapest number wins, buy theirs. We would rather say that than dress it up.

So which one should you buy?

Buy the Sleepmasters topper if you have a standard length Single or Queen, you want to spend the least, and you want it from a shop you can visit. Buy the Mr Mattress topper if you want real memory foam at a published density, if your bed is a Three Quarter, Double, King, Super King or any extra length, or if the quilted top, the fitted border, the 3 year warranty and the full year to change your mind are worth the difference to you.

Frequently asked questions

Does Sleepmasters sell a memory foam mattress topper?

No. Sleepmasters sells a mattress topper, but it is high resilient foam, not memory foam. Their own spec sheet lists the filling type as not applicable and publishes no density figure.

What sizes does the Sleepmasters topper come in?

Two: Single at 92cm and Queen at 152cm, in Standard Length 188cm only. There is no Three Quarter, no Double, no King, no Super King, and no 200cm extra length option. Mr Mattress makes all six sizes in both lengths.

Is the Sleepmasters topper cheaper than Mr Mattress?

Yes, on the two sizes they make. Theirs runs roughly R999 on promotion to R1,999, against R1,499 for our Single and R2,599 to R2,799 for our Queen. You are paying more with us for 7cm of published 30 density memory foam, a quilted top, a fitted border and a 365 night trial.

How does the Sleepmasters topper stay on the bed?

Four elastic corner straps, as stated on their own product page. The Mr Mattress topper has a fitted border that wraps the sides of the mattress like a fitted sheet, with no straps.

What warranty and trial does the Sleepmasters topper carry?

No warranty is published for the topper itself. Their 120 Nights Sleep Happy guarantee applies to bed sets from R4,499 bought with a protector, is an exchange rather than a refund, requires a 30 night minimum wait and charges a 10 percent admin fee plus delivery. Mr Mattress gives a 3 year warranty and a 365 night trial on the topper on its own.

Which topper should I buy?

Buy the Sleepmasters one if you want the cheapest option in a Single or Queen from a familiar retail name and the spec does not matter to you. Buy ours if you want real memory foam at a published density, in a size or length they do not make, with a quilted top, a fitted border and a full year to test it.
