The "20-Year Warranty" Question
This is the single thing most Kooi buyers misread, so it is worth being precise about.
Kooi advertises a "20-year warranty. Three-year product guarantee." Those are two different things. The guarantee - the period in which a manufacturing fault is simply put right - is three years. The twenty-year figure is a service warranty, which is a long-tail support arrangement, not two decades of full cover. The Kooi Performa carries a shorter two-year guarantee with a fifteen-year service warranty.
Mr Mattress gives you a 10-year manufacturing warranty on the Active, Revive and Hybrid, and 3 years on the Comfort Foam. It is direct with us - there is no retailer in the middle. If something is wrong, you call the people who made it.
So the honest comparison is 3 years of guarantee versus 10, not 20 versus 10. Read the wording on any mattress warranty carefully, ours included.

Where Kooi Wins
Entry price. The Kooi Champ queen is R2,999. That is R400 less than our cheapest queen, the Active at R3,399. If the lowest possible price is the deciding factor, the Champ is cheaper.
Range width. Kooi runs from the Champ at R2,999 all the way to the Body Trainer at R27,699. If you want to try several very different builds within one brand, in one showroom, that range is real and we do not match it at the top end.
Retail floor space. Kooi is stocked at large retailers nationwide. If there is a Mattress Warehouse near you and there is no Mr Mattress store in your town, it is easier to go and lie on a Kooi.
They do have a trial. Kooi mattresses bought through The Mattress Warehouse come with a 100-night in-home comfort trial. That is a genuine trial and worth crediting - ours is longer, but theirs is not nothing.
Where Mr Mattress Wins
Trial length. 365 nights against 100. That is more than three times as long, with no hold period before you can return and no return fee. A mattress takes weeks to judge properly; a year removes the guesswork entirely.
Guarantee. 10 years of manufacturing warranty on the Active, Revive and Hybrid, against Kooi's 3-year product guarantee. Direct with the manufacturer, not through a retailer.
Foam transparency. We publish the spec on every product page: 50 kg/m� virgin high-density SABS-approved foam. Kooi's foam density is not listed on the retailer's product pages, so you are trusting a brand name rather than a number you can check.
Weight rating. 140 kg per side, against Kooi's stated 130 kg capacity. If you or your partner are heavier, that difference matters over the life of the mattress.
Mid-range value. The Kooi Ultra queen is R5,499. The Mr Mattress Revive - memory foam comfort layer on a published 50 kg/m� SABS-approved base - is R4,899. You pay R600 less and you know exactly what is inside it.

Researching Kooi Reviews? Four Things Worth Checking
Whichever brand you land on, these are the questions that actually separate mattresses:
- What is the foam density, in kg/m�? This is the single best predictor of how long a foam mattress lasts. If a brand will not publish it, ask why.
- Is the headline warranty a guarantee or a service warranty? They are not the same. Ask for the guarantee period in writing.
- How long is the trial, and what does returning actually cost? Check for hold periods, protector requirements, collection fees and whether you get cash back or only an exchange.
