That swing is the thing to plan for. Inland Eastern Cape nights get genuinely cold in winter, and the load bin is a steel surface losing heat all night. The 100mm standard thickness is the practical answer, foam depth is what keeps the cold of the bin off you, and there is no clever fabric substitute for it.
The coastal half brings the opposite problem: humidity and salt air. Same solution as everywhere the air is damp, ventilate while you sleep, and unzip the canvas cover and wash it when you get home. What is the mattress made from?
45-50 kg/m3 high-density foam, the same grade used in our bed mattresses, not soft camping-pad foam, wrapped in a tough 800gsm Riptech canvas cover with a zip-off design for easy cleaning.

How thick is the bakkie mattress?
100mm as standard, with 80mm available on request. The 100mm is the full thickness the category is built around: it keeps you clear of a hard, ribbed load-bin floor and, just as importantly, insulates you from a steel bin that loses heat all night. It still rolls up to store behind the seats. If you run a low canopy and headroom is genuinely tight, we build the same mattress at 80mm on request, just tell us when you order.
Does it work under a canopy or with a rooftop tent?
Yes. At the standard 100mm it still leaves working headroom under a standard bakkie canopy, and 80mm is available on request if your canopy is unusually low, and it is a common setup for owners who sleep in the bin rather than in a rooftop tent. If you run a rooftop tent and want foam for the tent itself instead of the load bin, that is a custom size and we quote it on our custom-cut foam page.
Does it fit a Nissan NP200, Ford Bantam or Corsa Utility?
Not from the three stock cab shapes. Nissan NP200, Ford Bantam and Chevrolet Corsa Utility are half-ton bakkies with a much smaller bin than a full-size single cab, so they need a true custom cut rather than a pre-measured cab shape. Send those measurements through our custom-cut foam page and we will quote it.
Which towns in Eastern Cape do you deliver to?

Is one bakkie mattress enough for both the Wild Coast and the Karoo?
Yes, and that is largely the point of a bed-grade foam core rather than cheap foam. The Eastern Cape asks a mattress to handle humid, salty coastal nights on the Wild Coast and then cold, dry Karoo nights that swing twenty degrees between afternoon and 4am.
