Mpumalanga has one very specific advantage for anyone who sleeps in their bakkie: Kruger gates open early, and the people who get the best of a morning drive are the ones who were already close to the gate the night before. Malelane, Crocodile Bridge and Numbi are all reachable by road the evening before, and sleeping in the bin near the gate turns a long pre-dawn drive into a short one.
The province is really two climates stacked on top of each other, and that catches people out. The Lowveld, Nelspruit, Malelane, Komatipoort and the Kruger side, is hot and humid, and summer nights barely cool down. Twenty minutes up the escarpment on the Panorama Route around Graskop, Sabie and Pilgrim's Rest, it is cool, misty and often wet, and winter nights up there get properly cold. How thick is the bakkie mattress?
100mm as standard, with 80mm available on request. The 100mm is the full thickness the category is built around: it keeps you clear of a hard, ribbed load-bin floor and, just as importantly, insulates you from a steel bin that loses heat all night. It still rolls up to store behind the seats. If you run a low canopy and headroom is genuinely tight, we build the same mattress at 80mm on request, just tell us when you order.
Does it work under a canopy or with a rooftop tent?
Yes. At the standard 100mm it still leaves working headroom under a standard bakkie canopy, and 80mm is available on request if your canopy is unusually low, and it is a common setup for owners who sleep in the bin rather than in a rooftop tent. If you run a rooftop tent and want foam for the tent itself instead of the load bin, that is a custom size and we quote it on our custom-cut foam page.
Does it fit a Nissan NP200, Ford Bantam or Corsa Utility?
Not from the three stock cab shapes. Nissan NP200, Ford Bantam and Chevrolet Corsa Utility are half-ton bakkies with a much smaller bin than a full-size single cab, so they need a true custom cut rather than a pre-measured cab shape. Send those measurements through our custom-cut foam page and we will quote it.

Sleep only where it is permitted, a campsite, a lodge, or private property you have permission to be on, not on a public roadside. Note that Mpumalanga is two climates in one province: the Lowveld stays hot and humid overnight while the escarpment around Graskop and Sabie gets cold and misty, so pack for whichever side of that split you will actually be on.
